Choice #2: Setting

  1. What is the setting of your story?  Remember that setting is both place and time of the story.  Your book will most likely not tell you exactly when and where it takes place, but you can find clues in the story.  Is this a modern story (computers, video games, shopping malls, etc.)?  Does it take place in a city, suburb, or farm area?  Be sure to tell the clues that give the setting of your story.
Start out: My story takes place…  I can tell because…

  1. My story takes place in England. I can tell because sometimes the book will mention it and sometimes I will hear about familiar buildings. For example, once the book referenced the Big Ben Clock Tower.

  2. The book I read was named Sisters. My story takes place in a three row van. If you read the book you would know that they are mostly in the car. A lot of problems happen in the car too. And I also get the there is
probably some solutions. Like Raina won't sit in the front seat because of " The Incident". Also not a lot of friendly sisterhood goes into this story. And sometimes it gets really hot. They were in the car to get to the family reunion, but some people don't act like they used to. By somebody I mean Lindsay. In this long car ride journey, there is a lot of bad weather. Anyway I would recommend this book too people who have a sister or more because this book is all about sisterhood. It's also fine if you don't have a sister then you can relate on someone else like somebody who feels like a sister to you. Read the book!

  3. I read the book Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief. Percy and Annabeth are half-bloods. Half human half god. They are each children of a god or goddess except Grover he is half goat half human. They are sent on a quest to find Percy's mom and they start revealing the clues to lord Kronos who is a bad creature, that may rise. The story first takes place on a ranch where camp half-blood is,then they go to different cities to find the pearls which are transportations to the Underworld. You can really tell because of the detailed imagery descriptions and action. The story takes place all around the United States, Olympus, and the Underworld. This book is full of action, adventure, and mystery. I also really love that is a series. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to be at the edge of their seat when reading!!!

    1. Colleen, this is because when you go into your settings, your description should be Colleen and not Unknown. If you can't do that, then just write your blogs like this: Colleen Nakhooda- and then just write your entry.

  5. My story takes place in China. I can tell because it says that (in Boxers and Saints): “All across China, we battled the foreign devils", or something along those lines.

  6. I read the book Wild Girl which took place in two places. In the first part of the book, it took place in somewhere called Gails. Then when the main character moved to the USA to a horse farm. That's where the setting was in Wild Girl.

  8. My book mostly takes place in a swamp. This is a fictional swamp so it is not real. It is always very damp and wet and in the swamp village and there are tiny islands made of floating reeds!

  10. The book I just read was Encyclopedia Brown Cracks the Case. The story takes place in Idaville, in 1963. I can tell this because Encyclopedia (real name Leroy), is a detective and has a partner Sally. Encyclopedia and Sally run a business from Encyclopedia's garage, solving any crime in Idaville. Encyclopedia is known as the only walking library in America. His dad is the chief of police, so Encyclopedia is aloud to help crack any case. The book doesn't take place in modern time, but it does take place in the city of Idaville. If you would like a not scary but fun mystery book, I would love to recommend this book to you, and the rest of the series.

  14. I read the book the Neptune Challenge. This is the second book in the series by Polly Holyoke. It takes place underwater, with humans that have been altered to breathe water instead of air. They can be on land for small amounts of time and breathe air, though. It takes place after Los Angeles has been destroyed by a famine and drought, so about 100 years from now. It takes place on the border of the USA and Canada, in the Pacific Ocean, specifically the Queen Charlotte Strait. About 100 miles around it is Kuron's underwater fortress Atlantea, which is where Nere and her friends spend most of their time in this book.

  15. Great job Gauri!!! That sounds very interesting how the main setting in the book is a place where people breathe water instead of air. That sounds like a very cool book!

  16. I read the seventh book in the Sew Zoey series, Sew Zoey Knot Too Shabby! The story mainly takes place in New York City and Blue Mountain Camp for the Arts. I can tell these are the main settings because in the beginning of the book Zoey (main character), and her friends Kate, Libby, and Pritti keep talking about Zoey and Libby's trip to New York City. Also, I can tell that Blue Mountain Camp for the Arts is a main setting because the author gives precise details about the camp, and talks about almost every day while Zoey is at the camp. This story takes place in present/modern day in the city. The author, Chole Taylor gives many clues as to where the main settings are. For example, she describes everything in very detailed way that Zoey, Libby, and aunt Lexie (Libby's aunt) do while they are all in New York City. The author also does this same thing when she describes Zoey and Pritti's adventures at Blue Mountain Camp of the Arts. In conclusion, the main settings in Sew Zoey Knot Too Shabby!, are New York City and Blue Mountain Camp of the Arts.

  17. I read the book It's Raining Cupcakes. It takes place in the school, in the It's Raining Cupcake Shop, and at their home too. Sophie's cupcake shop is the main setting, and the book is about Sophie and her mom running their cupcake shop, and their odds and ends. It's not too long, so if you're looking for something to read last minute, this is a great book to choose. The second book in the series in called "Sprinkles and Secrets" which is also a good book.

  18. My story, The Warden's Daughter, takes place in a prison, or as the main character (Cammie) likes to call, 'The Tower of Death'. She has so many adventures throughout the book, and experiences many different emotions too. Her mother was killed by a milk truck, so she is missing her a lot, and she does not handle her emotions very well. The time this book takes place is around 1950, when you can buy a banana split for 50 cents. I know that this is the time it takes place because it states the date many times in the story.

  19. My book The Winter Of Red Snow takes place during the revolutionary war. It is very sad because as the title reviles the snow was red. You might be wondering why this is, well the snow is red because of the soldiers blood. If you like war diaries or the American Diaries this is the book for you.

  21. I read the book Auggie and Me. The book mostly took place in Beecher Prep because it's about the other characters and their perspectives of what they think about Auggie. I know we all read Wonder, so it's a great book to read after it. I loved seeing what all of the other characters thought about Auggie!!
